Dear readers,

I attempted - repeatedly - to describe the experience of returning to Chicago after our year abroad, but everything I wrote seemed insufficient or inauthentic. In the simplest words: it's complicated. I miss Korea, but I'm thrilled to be home. I haven't found a job yet, so I've a lot of time on my hands. Culture shock has been subtly setting in. We are slowly rebuilding a home.

Living abroad changed me in fundamental ways, but how can I explain it? An impossible task. There is a woman inside of me who remains on Geoje Island. Another, planning our next adventure. Holding them together is this Midwesterner, living in the present, reconnecting with home.
