Guksabong Peak

February 11, 2013

We are surrounded by mountains. Today we grabbed a backpack and hiked to Guksabong Peak. The trail entrance is a brief walk from our apartment in Okpo. It was an initially challenging hike, considering our fitness level and the lack of switchbacks. About 1.5km up the trail sits a gazebo with a breathtaking view of Okpo and the DSME harbor. There is also - nestled in the woods - an outdoor recreational area with fitness equipment, including several bench presses with free weights. I remain amazed by the respect the citizens of this island have for community property. Our excursion lasted approximately 2.5 hours. Of course, we had many pit stops during which I forced my mountain man to model. I think he looks pretty good.

oh by the way i think you should totally just turn up for the free korean lesson which is available at your neighborhood! the thing that has kept me from visiting korea is mainly, well partly also because i don't speak their language. i just tend to feel i would be able to connect with a country better if i speak their language. oh well, me always, thinking alot.

anyway enjoyed your post! keep them coming =)

  4. Thanks, friends! It was a really nice hike. The island is BEAUTIFUL. Jun - thank you for encouraging me. I don't know why I am so shy about it. It's hard to learn a new language as an adult. I want to learn as much Korean as I can so that I can - as you said - connect to the people and the culture. Thanks for finding me!
